We are delighted to announce the winners of the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science Research Impact and Knowledge Exchange Competition 2021
Research impact is ‘the demonstrable contribution that excellent research makes to society and the economy’.
The excellent submissions to the Research Impact and Knowledge Exchange Competition show that social science PhD researchers across Scotland are creating an impact for our society and internationally in very different ways.
Approx. 40 SGSSS students have participated in the Impact Competition this year. Applications were initially assessed by a review panel who selected the first round winner, and shortlisted 6 candidates to go through public vote to elect the second round winner of the competition. Our six finalists were: Beth Cloughton, Kate McKenzie, Laura Jones, Nina Miller, Poppy Gerrard-Abbott and Victoria Armstrong.
The SGSSS Panel Selection prize has been awarded to:
VICKY ARMSTRONG, recognised for her wide-ranging outputs, for demonstrating tangible impact and the obvious potential for expanded impact through a set of highly innovative planned activities. Vicky’s submission was celebrated as being both clear and concise with a strong narrative, great examples of evidence and superb use of opportunities.
The Public Vote prize has been awarded to:
KATE MCKENZIE, receiving 142 votes out of a total 503 votes collected amongst the 6 candidates. Amongst other comments, Kate’s work has been appreciated for her global academic and policy reach, her clear and comprehensive objective and tangible impact and for her contribution to the world on making law more accessible on such a contemporary issue.
Please see the videos below to find out more about the two winning projects and hear more about the other shortlisted candidates.
A warm congratulations to all the other participants of the Impact Competition. SGSSS wishes you all the best for a continuous success in your impact work!
