APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED

PhD interns working with the SGSSS will help us to further our strategic plans. This will be a great opportunity for applicants to use your research skills to get experience working within Higher Education on a project that will have impact for you and fellow PhD students across the SGSSS community.

How will the placements in SGSSS work?

The PhD researchers will undertake an internship placement within the SGSSS, working from home. The placements are for the equivalent of three months full-time work, but can be undertaken as part-time positions for six months. The internship will be paid at University of Edinburgh Grade 6 (pro rata): find more information here.

As staff at the SGSSS are currently all working from home, the projects are planned to take place remotely. This means that researchers anywhere in Scotland can complete the projects from home.

Who is eligible?

The placements are open to second year and third year students, as well as students in your write-up year, as long as you can reassure us that the internship won’t have a detrimental effect on your PhD’s timely completion. This is because we know that the recent pandemic has meant there are less opportunities for paid work, which makes things particularly challenging for those who are not currently in receipt of additional funding.

When will the internships happen?

All the positions are available from September 2020 and may be undertaken full-time or part-time depending on your circumstances. The common job description for the 4 projects can be accessed here and the specifics of each project can be found here.

How do I apply?

  • To apply for an internship, you need to complete the word application form here and submit the form, along with a two-page CV and Statement of Support from your supervisor, on Grad Hub.
  • Please note that you can apply for up to two of the internships being advertised by the SGSSS using a single word application form.
  • The deadline to submit your application is 5pm on Friday 21 August. Interviews will be held remotely on Tuesday 1st or Thursday 3rd September.

If you would like any further information, please email team@sgsss.ac.uk with the subject title “SGSSS Internship”.
