The Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Mentoring Scheme
The SGSSS works in partnership with the RSE to deliver the RSE Mentoring Scheme.
The SGSSS is delighted to partner with the RSE on a mentoring scheme for ESRC funded students. The scheme piloted in 2019/20 and is in its first full academic year for 2020/21.
Our aims for the scheme are:
- To awaken and develop sensitivity to the value of interdisciplinarity for researchers
- To enhance the student experience by supporting professional development and social capital (research impact, developing networks, careers advice)
- To support students’ engagement with their own professional development by encouraging them to negotiate the terms of their mentoring needs with their mentor as the relationship develops
- To contribute to the strategic aims of the RSE and SGSSS to create more cross-sector partnerships that support diverse and interdisciplinary research
For more information about what it’s like to be involved with the scheme, please see our case study from the pilot. Applications for the 2020/21 mentoring scheme are now closed. Further information about the 2021/22 mentoring opportunities will be published in summer 2021.
