ADR UK Studentship Competition

The Scottish Graduate School of Social Science is delighted to announce the launch of the supervisor-led ADR UK Studentship Competition 2026/27

ADR UK, in collaboration with ESRC, are looking to fund up to 30 new PhD studentships focused on quantitative research using linked administrative data. SGSSS may apply to host up to five studentships, and now welcome applications from eligible supervisors across our DTP. These studentships would start in October 2027.

Over the past several years, ADR UK has made significant advances in making de-identified administrative data easier for researchers to access securely. As a result, there is now an impressive collection of new flagship datasets available through their partnership’s trusted research environments across the UK. The ADR UK flagship dataset database outlines the research potential of some of these datasets, and applicants are encouraged to refer to the database when making an application.

Flagship Datasets including Scottish data are:

  1. Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) linked to Migrant Workers Scan.
  2. Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) to Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and Self-Assessment data
  3. Looked After Children Longitudinal Dataset – Scotland
  4. RAPID: Population interactions with employment, benefits and pensions – UK
  5. The Scottish Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) – University extract

Applicants can also choose to draw on other administrative datasets, including up-and-coming flagship datasets which are expected to be available to accredited researchers by the start of the programme. These include:

  1. Adult Health, Social Care and Census – Scotland
  2. Housing, Health & Environment – Scotland

How to Apply

Please first review the ADR UK call specifications and applicant guidance. SGSSS Apply will open for applications from 5 May 2026. The deadline for applications to SGSSS is 5 August 2026.
