What information about the world does a speaker take into account when planning and producing a sentence? How much of this information is directly encoded into the syntax or semantics, and what is implicitly inferred from contextual factors? Using data collected from Scots varieties, I was interested in providing a strong empirical basis for addressing these two questions.
