The Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS) is delighted to launch our 2 mentoring programmes for Social Science researchers across Scotland.

In 2019 the SGSSS started collaborating with the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) to pilot its first mentoring programme, focusing on interdisciplinary PhD research. In 2020, supported by the Accelerating Business Collaboration (ABC) fund, a second mentoring programme was piloted with the aim to connect PhD researchers to PhD Alumni with professional experience within the private sector.
Today, further to positive feedback and a dedicated attention to continuous improvement, we are delighted to announce that the applications for both mentoring programmes are now open for the academic year 2021-2022 with some exciting news!
RSE Mentoring Programme (focus on interdisciplinary research):
- We have expanded the pool of our mentors’ community. The successful ESRC-funded students will be matched with an experienced mentor who is a current Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh or a member of the Young Academy of Scotland.
- We have introduced an element of networking which will offer to the participants the opportunity to get together as a group half-way through the programme.
Career Pathways Mentoring Programme (focus on careers outside of academia):
- We have expanded the scope of activity of our Alumni mentors. The successful students will be matched with a mentor who is a PhD researcher Alumnus/a with professional experience in the private, public or third sector.
- We have introduced an element of networking which will offer to the participants the opportunity to get together as a group half-way through the programme.
