Black History Month 2023 – call for presentation ideas

‍Black History Month Programme

We are delighted to announce that this year we are again running our successful SGSAH and SGSSS Black History Month Programme. As part of a series of events, we are holding a series of online public presentations over the weeks commencing 2 and 16 October 2023.

The presentations will be aimed at the general audience and should therefore be as accessible as possible. We envisage that each event will feature two or three presentations, followed by a short Q&A. Presenters will be offered training in public speaking and presentations in advance of the programme.

We would like to now invite you to send us ideas for short (10 minute) presentations by 15 August. Titles and short abstracts should be sent to anindya.raychaudhuri@glasgow.ac.uk

Possible themes could include:

  • Race and Racism in Scotland
  • Legacies of Slavery
  • Black Lives Matter
  • Decolonising the University
  • Celebrating Black Experiences and Culture

This list is not exhaustive and we are interested in featuring as wide a range of experience and expertise as possible. You may draw your ideas from your PhD research, from other interests, or from your lived experience. If you have an idea, or any questions, please let us know.
