ESRC Steers Competition 2020/21

APPLY NOW

UKRI (ESRC) are currently in the process of changing the rules regarding residential eligibility criteria for studentships. This will apply across all SGSSS studentship competitions (both student and supervisor led). As such, please check back in October 2020 (expected publication of research council guidance) for an update on these changes.

Please note, for all of the supervisor-led competitions, applications can be submitted as planned, as the implications of the changes to eligibility criteria will only take effect at the stage of student recruitment.

The Scottish Graduate School of Social Science is delighted to announce the launch of the ESRC Steers Supervisor-led Competition 2020/21

In line with the ESRC’s core commitment to enhancing social science capability and building capacity in priority areas, the SGSSS is running a two stage Supervisor-led Competition awarding studentships in the following priority areas (steers):

  • Datasets
  • Interdisciplinary research which straddles other research council remits
  • Advanced Quantitative Methods (AQM)

To find out more about each steer, please read the ESRC’s Guidance on Steers and Targets. Note that additional information on datasets is included in the Steers Competition Guidance.

Supervisors are invited to review the guidance in preparation for submitting an Expression of Interest by 12pm on 9 October 2020. An overview of the competition timeline can be found below.

Please note that applications should be submitted via our applications portal, GradHub. Please register for GradHub as soon as possible to avoid any delay as accounts are approved manually, during office hours.
